MAX WHALE – RACING IN USA UPDATE
Kawasaki supported rider, Max Whale, has been working hard carving out a name on the American flat track scene. We caught up with Max to find out how everything is going racing in America.
A few words from Max:
First race back after my broken collarbone was at Buffalo Chip in Sturgis SD, it was an amazing event. I came away with a 8th place finish which I was pretty happy about.
We moved onto Black Hills 2 days later were I topped the time sheets in qualifying but unfortunately I had a bad start in my heat which put in a bad grid position for my heats and semis, I still made the main but had a disappointing result coming in 16th.
After Black Hills we moved to the Iconic Peoria TT in Illinois, what a picturesque track. I made the main and was running in 7th position when I got a flat so that ended my race having to pull in but came away with a 17th.
Next was Springfield Short Track, I had my struggles through the day but came away with a 16th.
After Springfield we headed to Williams Grove in Mechanicsburg PA to a clay half mile. At the beginning of the year I struggled a lot on the clay tracks but Dad and I have learnt so much about set up this year and with the new KX450 it was a great weekend. I qualified in 4th position, I got 2nd in my heat and 2nd in my semi, I was stoked to be on the front row for the main. In the main i was coming 3rd all race until the last 2 laps, I made a few silly mistakes on the final laps to come home in 4th position, my best finish this year.
With 2 races left of the series I am hoping to get on the podium, it will be dream come true.
Racing in america has been a steep learning curve for Max and his supportive family. He is progressing strongly and we look forward to watching Max Whale become a household name.
