Meg Rutledge wins Newcastle Supermoto
There was significant hype for the FIM Oceania Newcastle International Supermoto featuring the Australian Supermoto Championship and the event lived up to the expectations! Hosted in Newcastle across the Father’s Day weekend, the event was packed with non-stop racing action and a host of talented names battled it out.
The event was livestreamed throughout the world and broadcast nationally on SBS Speedweek, Fox Sports Australia, Fox Sports Asia, Motors TV in Europe and MAVTV to the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Kawasaki supported rider, Meg Rutledge, entered into the Women’s Class and the FIM Oceania Class on the Kawasaki KX250. For the Australian Women’s Championship, Meghan Rutledge from NSW was on fire, taking out 3 victories from 3 races on route to her title win. She finished ahead of Lahrra Cloak and Keegan Pickering in the standings.
In Meg’s Words:
“I qualified first in the women's class on the Saturday and then followed on to win the first Moto. After having so much fun on the Saturday I decided to put a late entry in for the FIM Oceania class for the Sunday racing.”
“In the Women’s Class I took 3 from 3 wins to claim the 2018 Women’s Australian Supermoto Championship.”
“In the FIM Oceania class I was the only Female and the only 250cc on track. It was a very new experience and I am super proud of my 21st, 16th and 15th place finishes in this class against some of the best supermoto racers in the world.”
“The track held up really well throughout the weekend. I’ve never ridden on tar before in wet conditions so that was interesting. Looking forward to coming back next year!”
