Kyle Peters Puts National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team On 2016 MX Nationals Round 9 Podium
National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s American import, Kyle Peters made an immediate impact on the 2016 MX Nationals by placing his 2016 KX450F on the podium in second overall at Toowoomba's penultimate round.
The North Carolina native quickly established himself as a man to beat around the hard-pack Echo Valley circuit when he posted the second-fastest MX1 qualifying time, then soon after claimed the Super Pole victory.
Peters carried his momentum into the opening MX1 race where he holeshot the field and led the entire race to claim his inaugural Australian motocross race win, withstanding all kinds of pressure in the process.
In the second outing Peters had to work harder for a third-place result. After working his way through the pack in the opening couple of laps he fought his way into second position, but left the door open on the final lap and finished the race third, and second overall for the day.
“Everything worked really, really good all day,” Peters reflected. “It started off great with qualifying and the Super Pole win, then I was able to holeshot the first moto and ride my own race. The second moto was a little tough as I didn’t get as good a start, but I had a lot of fun battling with the two front-runners.
“My goal was to come out and win races, so I’m happy to have done that in my first event with the Natioanl Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team. Now our focus turns to Coolum this weekend and I feel like it will be another strong round for us - the bike, team and everything has been great since arriving in Australia.”
Peters’ MX1 teammate Kade Mosig continued his consistent string of results around the hillside Toowoomba circuit where he claimed a career-best 1-1 result last year.
Mosig rode solidly to a fifth position in the opening MX1 race, then suffered some bad luck in the second race with a mid-pack start, then a small mistake on the third lap dropped him back to 15th. Still, he rallied to finish the race in eighth place and sixth overall for the day.
“It was one of those days for me, really,” Mosig said. “I’m disappointed with my results, especially in that second race. I’m still comfortably placed in fourth in the championship, but I want to put this race behind me and look to finish the season strongly at Coolum next weekend.”
The 10th and final round of the 2016 MX Nationals will be held next weekend at Coolum, Queensland.
